Monterey Fairgrounds – January 2012

For the second time, we stayed at the campgrounds at the Monterey Fairgrounds.  This time we met our friends, Ian and Susan from Santa Barbara.  We like this campground because of its location, cleanliness and quiet.  It is a real value for the money (be sure to ask for your senior discount).

While there we visited Spanish Bay Resort at Pebble Beach and was awed by the view and grounds.  The surf was really pumping that day.

After checking out Spanish Bay, we drove down the entire 17 Mile Drive.  The weather was fantastic and the views are to die for.  While in the area, we visited Monterey’s Fisherman’s Wharf.  Walked around the harbor area and had a taste of their wonderful calm chowder and watched the 49er’s win a playoff game.

One night we ate a Swiss restaurant in Carmel that had a great “ump pa pa” band and delicious food.  Another night we ate at Hula’s on Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.  It was great.  Surf theme (which will all love and appreciate) with a full bar and an excellent variety of beers.  We all had something different for dinner and it was all great.  Reasonably priced too.
